ESA Announces Second CubeSat Workshop

Following on from the successful Vega Maiden Flight CubeSat Workshop held at ESA/ESTEC in January 2008, which was the first CubeSat workshop to be held at European-level, the ESA Education Office is pleased to announce the Second European CubeSat Workshop one year later as planned. This Second European CubeSat Workshop will take place in ESA/ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands on 20-22 January 2009.

NASA Announces Stand Alone Missions of Opportunities Notice (SALMON)

On September 3rd, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced the opportunity to conduct science investigations and technology demonstrations of modest cost and scope as Missions of Opportunity (MO). More information can be found at the NASA SALMON proposal website.

University of Toronto Institute for Space Sciences (UTIAS) successfully launches 6 CubeSats.

The launch took place on April 28th on board a PSLV-C9 rocket out of Sriharikota, India. The six CubeSats on this launch were: AAUSAT-II, CanX-2, Cute-1.7+APD II, Compass One, Delfi-C3, and SEEDS. All six CubeSats have been heard from in space. Please join us in congratulating these developers on their success!

NSF Announces Funding for CubeSats


The National Science Foundation has announced funding for CubeSat-based science missions for space weather and atmospheric research (NSF 08-549). Beginning in 2009, NSF expects to launch two to four P-PODS per year in pursuit of achieving these scientific research goals. More information can be found on the NSF Website which describes additional specifics on applying for funding on these research projects. Next proposal deadline: February 10th, 2009.
