Performance Goals and Projects

The NHLBI has developed an agenda to help meet the Healthy People 2010 goals and objectives related to sleep and sleep disorders. Issued in January 2000, Healthy People 2010 is the Federal Government's blueprint for building a healthier Nation over the next 10 years.

NHLBI's sleep and sleep disorders' agenda has two key "Performance Goals," which are shown in the diagram below. The goals target different stages in the prevention and detection and treatment of sleep problems and disorders.

To meet the goals, the NHLBI is undertaking a range of "Performance Projects," each geared to measurable results in order to assess progress. A key element of the Performance Projects is the forging of partnerships that can bring crucial information into communities, particularly to those at high risk of sleep problems and disorders.
