How to obtain books and articles not found in the Technical Library |
Items can be requested through the Document Delivery Service's Library
Request Form. Customers are encouraged to check the Library's Online
Catalog and electronic holdings prior to requesting material.
For assistance in locating material contact your reference
librarian.
- Library customers can borrow books, and purchase
journal articles, conference proceedings, patents, and
other materials not in the Library's collection.
- Material not owned by the Library will be requested through interlibrary
loan or acquired through a third-party document service. Only the
costs incurred by the interlibrary loan (loan fee, shipping charge) or the cost of acquiring other materials through the delivery service will be passed on to the customer.
- Material borrowed via Document Delivery
must be returned by hand-carry only to Building 804 (Room 8 in NM and in CA to MO51, Room 114)
- If the book is lost in transit at Sandia or mislaid by support personnel, the Technical Library is liable for the replacement cost of the book, which we would then recover from you.

NM email libdoc@sandia.gov.

Due to staff changes in NM, ongoing capability upgrades and a recent significant increase in Document Delivery requests, our standard
turnaround time commitment will be extended from 7 working days to 10 working days for the next several months. Your patience is appreciated. Please be assured that we will do our utmost to fulfill all requests as quickly as reasonably possible and we are committed to delivering excellent service to our library patrons. Questions may be addressed to Donald Guy.
There will be exceptions to our capability to deliver your
requests within the ten days, such as:
- When the request includes procuring content outside
of the Technical Library every effort will be made
to get the content within the standard. If it is
known at the time of the request that the source
of the external content cannot deliver within our
standard, you will be informed and given the opportunity
to negotiate a different deadline.
- Extensive search requests or subsequent scope change of
the original search request will require a negotiation of a
reasonable deadline.
We recognize that there will be times when you may need something
sooner than ten working days. Please ask. If we can accommodate
your deadline without rearranging other commitments or calling
in extra resources, we will do so.
We will acknowledge receipt of your request. |
- The Library charges for any expenses incurred in getting you the information you need. Usually this relates to the cost to procure an article or report, or the cost of an interlibrary loaned book.
- As an IES service provider, we are funded to serve the Sandia population so we do not charge for our time. Should you need some dedicated time of one of our library personnel, we would negotiate a reasonable charge for that exclusive use. Feel free to contact Donald Guy if you have special service needs.
