Leadership Group

You will need the free Adobe Reader to view some of the files on this page. See EPA's PDF page to learn more.

The Midwest Clean Diesel Leadership Group, which is comprised of 33 public-sector and private-industry organizations, is driven to help meet MCDI's ambitious goal of reducing emissions from one million diesel engines in the region by 2010. The unique, collaborative nature of the Leadership Group will open new pathways to diesel emission reduction projects across the region, and will create lasting programs to address diesel emissions for years to come.

2008 Leadership Group Meeting :

The 2008 MCDI Leadership Group Meeting was held on November 13, at EPA Region 5 in Chicago from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Below, you can click on links to PDF files of each presentation, as well as a PDF of the final agenda for the meeting.

The 2007 MCDI Leadership Group took place on October 11, 2007, at the U.S. EPA Region 5 building in Chicago. The final agenda for last year's event can be viewed here (PDF) (2 pages, 14 KB).

Collaborative Principles

The Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative Leadership Group is guided by principles to involve private, non-profit and government organizations to voluntarily reduce diesel emissions, thereby helping to achieve the air quality standards set forth in the U.S. Clean Air Act.

Leadership Group Structure

The Leadership Group is co-chaired by U.S. EPA, Cummins Inc., Illinois EPA, and the American Lung Association of Illinois. Co-chairs are responsible for setting the general direction of the Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative as well as overseeing the activities of the group as a whole.

The Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative gets work done through the Clean Diesel Program Development Workgroup, which oversees two project-driven subcommittees and serves as a resource and liaison for clean diesel coalitions in each of the 6 states within EPA Region 5.

Clean Diesel Program Development Workgroup (Co-chaired by Cummins, Inc., and U.S. EPA)

The Clean Diesel Program Development Workgroup is designed to support clean diesel coalitions within each of the Region 5 states.  These state-based coalitions will assess their individual needs, identify their goals and achievable activities and work together to address those goals.  Coalition partners will determine the geographic areas to focus on in their state as well as the sectors of interest and the technology options that make sense for the specific areas.  The groups then will work to develop funding opportunities to reduce the diesel emissions from the fleets within the identified sectors.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Q and A Informational Calls:

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), signed into law on February 17, 2009, includes $300 million to support Clean Diesel activities. The competitive announcements for the ARRA Funding for National Diesel Emissions Reduction Program became available on March 20, 2009. You can veiw the announcements here.

This Recovery Act Funding for National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program is a competitive grant program and funding from it must be used to achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions in terms of tons of pollution produced and diesel emissions exposure (particularly from fleets operating in areas designated by the Administrator as poor air quality areas), and the project must demonstrate the ability to maximize job preservation and creation.

The Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative is hosting two question-and-answer session conference calls about the ARRA DERA requests for applications. The calls are as follows:

Monday, March 30, 2009, 10:00 - 11:30 am central time
