Community Engagement
Building Common Ground, Sharing Stories, and Experiencing Cultures
It is vital that national parks remain actively engaged as members of the communities in which they are a part. The community engagement piece of the National Park Foundation seeks to strengthen the capacity of national parks to provide contemporary relevance for our past, broadening our understanding of the world around us and enrich us culturally, intellectually, and emotionally.
Creating long-lasting relationships among diverse communities, and finding meaningful and relevant connections to their local national park is the focus of the Connecting Communities to Parks Program. Helping to create sustainable partnerships in the education community and positioning the national parks as a premiere learning laboratory for place-based and inquiry-based education is the focus of the Park Teachers Program.
