CHANGE IN LOCATION FOR FDA's CHICAGO BIOTECH FOODS MEETING

The Food and Drug Administration today announced a change in the location of the public meeting on bioengineered foods for Chicago, Ill., only. The new location is the Metcalfe Federal Building, 77 West Jackson Boulevard, Room 331. FDA has also arranged for an over-flow room at the Chicago Marriott Downtown, 540 North Michigan Avenue, 7th floor, Grand Ballroom, Chicago, Ill.

This public meeting will afford consumers, industry, and academia an opportunity to comment on FDA's jurisdiction related to foods derived from plants developed using bioengineering techniques. The public will be informed about current FDA policy for assuring the safety of bioengineered foods. The public will be asked whether this policy should be modified and also to comment on appropriate means of providing information to the public about bioengineered products in the food supply.

For information about and registration for the Chicago meeting, contact Darlene Bailey, 312-353-7126; FAX 312-886-3280; e-mail dbailey@ora.fda.gov.

Additional public meetings on bioengineered foods will be held in Washington, D.C. on November 30 and in Oakland, Calif., on December 13.
