Project 1:  Use of the Electronic Medical Record to Facilitate Situational Awareness for Public Health Emergencies:

This project will identify the best data elements and analytic methods to use for the early discovery of outbreaks. Additionally, it will identify those elements and methods that help to rapidly classify the event and monitor results of protocols used to contain the spread of disease.

Project 2:  Information and Resource Sharing Across Regional and National Public Health Networks:

This project will develop and evaluate methods for federal, state, and local health departments to collaborate in surveillance activities by sharing critical information, knowledge, and resources across a network.

Project 1:  Implementing and evaluating a model Electronic Health Record (EHR) system that incorporates public health priorities and epidemiologic data

Project 2:  Assessing the utility of structured and unstructured EHR data for syndromic surveillance using natural language processing, building on the infrastructure developed for regional health information exchanges to pilot non-mandatory, deidentified public health reporting.
