Other initiatives for access to online journals

HINARI

The Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI) of WHO provides free or low-cost access to the major journals in biomedical and related social sciences, to public institutions in developing countries. Starting in January 2002 with over 2000 journals from the world's leading biomedical publishers.

OARE

Online Access to Research in the Environment (OARE), an international public-private consortium coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Yale University, and leading science and technology publishers, enables developing countries to gain access to one of the world's largest collections of environmental science research.

TEEAL

AGORA builds on TEEAL (The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library), a collection of key agricultural journals available to developing countries on CD-ROM. TEEAL is still available as an option for institutions that do not have adequate Internet access for AGORA.

INASP / PERI

INASP is a cooperative network of partners whose aim is to enhance world-wide access to information and knowledge. PERI is a specific programme of support to information production, access and dissemination for researchers and professionals.

eIFL - Electronic Information for Libraries

eIFL aims to facilitate affordable access to electronic scholarly resources by libraries in countries in transition. In its present form, eIFL covers well over 40 countries served by the Soros Foundations network. Along with its services promoting access to content in social sciences and humanities as well as science and technology, eIFL also offers various programs that support library consortium building in countries in transition.
