TVA Regional Resource Stewardship Council To Discuss River System Management

October 3, 2007

TVA staff will discuss how TVA is managing the Tennessee River system during the drought at a meeting of the Regional Resource Stewardship Council scheduled for Oct. 11-12 in Knoxville, Tenn.

The RRSC, created to advise TVA on the management of natural resources in the Tennessee Valley, is holding its first meeting since it was extended for a fourth two-year term.

The council will also hear a discussion of how TVA works with other state and federal agencies to manage water flow issues, and TVA staff will update the council on land planning.

The 20-member council was established in 2000 under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which sets guidelines for establishing a group that provides advice or makes recommendations to a federal agency. The TVA Board approved the appointment of members for a two-year term after receiving nominations from governors of the states served by TVA and recommendations from TVA customer organizations, community officials and other stakeholder groups.

Council meetings are open to the public and will be in session from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12. A public comment period is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 12. The meeting will be held in TVA’s West Tower Auditorium.

Anyone wanting to make comments at the meeting should register at the door by 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12. Speakers are asked to limit their remarks to no more than five minutes. Up to an hour will be allotted for public comments with participation available on a first- come, first-served basis. Hand-out materials should be limited to one printed page.

Written comments may be mailed to the Regional Resource Stewardship Council, TVA, 400 West Summit Hill Drive, WT 11B, Knoxville, TN 37902-1499, or faxed to (865) 632-2345. Comments may be made directly to council members through the RRSC website, accessible at www.tva.com. For more information, call the council records officer at (865) 632-4077.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financing.
