TVA Asks for Comments on Proposed Transmission Project

February 21, 2008

LIVINGSTON, Tenn. – To maintain reliable electric service and meet growing power demand, TVA plans to improve its transmission system in the Livingston area.

TVA is encouraging public input on the planned improvements, beginning with an open house in Livingston on Thursday, Feb. 28. Improvements include a new 161-kilovolt transmission line, which will be about 6.5 to 8 miles long. The line will begin at TVA’s Livingston substation at the intersection of state Route 111 and Route 52 North. It will extend to Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation’s proposed new Monroe substation about four miles north of Livingston on Route 111.

The line is needed to power the new substation, which will supply reliable power to the growing area and relieve overloading at the Livingston substation.

TVA will present alternative routes for the transmission line at an open house to be held from 3 -7 p.m. CST at the Livingston First United Methodist Church, Family Life Center, 104 Roberts St., in Livingston. Detailed maps showing the network of alternative routes for the power line will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals.
