Watts Bar Golf Tournament Raises More Than $33,000 for Area Schools

June 5, 2007

SPRING CITY, Tenn.—TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Plant employees raised more than $33,000 for their partners-in-education at the fifth annual benefit golf tournament held in May.

Funds raised at the golf tournament will be used for equipment and supplies at Watts Bar’s three current partner schools—Meigs North Elementary, Niota Elementary and Spring City Elementary--and at Walnut Hill Elementary, which will become a partner-in-education for the plant this fall.

During the past four years, the Watts Bar Partner-in-Education Committee has raised more than $96,000 to benefit the children in our partner schools,” said Watts Bar Vice President Mike Skaggs. “The volunteers contributed a tremendous amount of time and energy to make these tournaments successful, so we can help these kids. We appreciate their efforts to help our neighboring schools, as well as the generosity and support of tournament participants.”

This year’s tournament was held at Springbrook Country Club in Niota, Tenn., and more than 125 golfers participated in the event. In addition to the golf tournament, Watts Bar provides other support to the schools during the year, such as providing surplus equipment and helping schools with general requests for maintenance and supplies.
