TVA Police Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

April 10, 2007

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. will begin examining all aspects of the TVA Police on Saturday, April 21, TVA Police Director James Carver said today.

TVA Police first became accredited in 1998. To maintain accredited status, it must undergo reassessment every three years. TVA Police was assessed and reaccredited in 2004. This is its third reaccreditation effort.

The CALEA team will verify that TVA Police meets the commission’s state-of-the-art standards. The accreditation program is a voluntary process that requires agencies to comply with professional law enforcement standards in four basic areas—policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

As a part of the on-site assessment, TVA employees and members of the community are invited to call toll free, 1-888-640-5912, to offer comments. CALEA assessors will accept calls between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, April 23. Calls are limited to 10 minutes and must address the TVA Police’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.

Persons wishing to submit written comments about the TVA Police’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Inc., 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.7 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
