FAPRI Research Projects
Advances in communication and transportation have greatly expanded markets for agricultural products beyond national boundaries. Increased understanding of the multi-level interrelationships of environmental and economic factors enables FAPRI-Missouri to address these issues in a holistic manner.
Current thrusts include:
State Research: At the state level, FAPRI-Missouri provides information to legislators, trade organizations, agricultural businesses, local and regional watershed associations, and individuals. We have created systems to estimate the state and farm-level implications of developments in policy or markets. We also work on specialized research to address important local concerns.
National Research: FAPRI continually works to improve the tools it uses to look at issues of importance to U.S. agriculture. Our system provides detailed projections for major agricultural markets, and generates indicators such as government cost, net farm income and the consumer price index for food. We prepare comprehensive studies examining the economic implications of alternative U.S. food and farm programs and the impacts of external events such as WTO agreements and policy changes in the EU, Japan, and other trading partners.
International Activities: FAPRI-Missouri has worked with researchers and policy makers in a number of countries, which is critical for our policy analysis work. Since 1996, we have worked with teams of researchers in Ireland and the United Kingdom to develop tools that can be used to analyze issues of importance to agriculture. Collaborations are also active with researchers in South Africa, South Korea, and Japan.
