Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge Bridge

French Broad River, Knox County, Tennessee

TVA requests your comments on the Draft Environmental Assessment of a proposed pedestrian bridge across the French Broad River at the Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge in east Knox County. The 950-foot long bridge would connect two areas of the refuge separated by the river. The bridge would have a weathered steel superstructure, a 10-foot wide wooden deck, 9 steel piers with concrete bases in the riverbed, and an additional pier and concrete abutment on the land at each end of the bridge. The exact construction methods have not been determined at this time.

This project would be funded by the Knox County Division of Parks and Recreation, the State of Tennessee, and the Federal Highway Administration and is managed by the Public Building Authority of Knox County and the City of Knoxville. Permits would be required from TVA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the State of Tennessee.

Public Involvement

Knox County will hold a public hearing on November 7, 2007, at 5:30 PM in the City-County Building Small Assembly Room, located at 400 Main Street in Knoxville to allow the public to voice their opinions on the proposed bridge project.
