TVA is a member of the NuStart consortium, which is composed of eight other utility companies, plus General Electric Company and Westinghouse Electric Company. The consortium was formed to investigate the design, certification and licensing of advanced nuclear power reactors in connection with the U.S. Department of Energy's Nuclear Power 2010 program.

Fast Facts

The TVA system includes three nuclear, 11 fossil, 29 hydroelectric, six combustion-turbine, and one pumped-storage plant. TVA’s renewable energy program, Green Power Switch, includes 16 solar sites, one wind-energy site, and a methane gas facility.

Fossil-fuel plants produce about 60 percent of TVA’s power, nuclear plants about 30 percent, and hydropower dams about 10 percent. Green power also contributes to the generation mix.

There are 158 locally owned distributors that sell TVA electricity to consumers and 59 large industrial and federal customers that receive TVA power directly.
