Techniques for Growing Specialty Crops in Colorado

We are fortunate in Colorado to have an abundance of sunshine, low humidity (low disease pressure), and cold winters (reduction of pests). Our challenges include drought, high winds, hail, and the ever present weeds and insect pests. Growing crops organically also can pose extra challenges, however there are creative ways to defeat weeds, diseases, and pests, and methods to make growing specialty crops easier, especially for a small-scale farmer. Below we highlight techniques and ideas that address some of these issues, some are tried and true and some are new, novel ideas.
