On January 28, 2009, by a vote of 17 to 2, the Senate Judiciary Committee reported to the full Senate the nomination of Eric H. Holder Jr. to be the next Attorney General. Holder's nomination by President Obama was officially announced on December 1, 2008 and the Committee held two days of hearings on January 15 and January 16. Click here to read Sen. An estimated 1.8 million to 2 million people converged on the National Mall for the Inauguration of Barack Obama. Sen. Leahy was able to capture just how large the crowd was as it stretched from the Capitol building to the Washington Monument.

On January 20, 2009, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) had a unique vantage point from which to enjoy the inauguration ceremony of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.
