Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, member of the Senate Commerce Committee, released the following statement today regarding the House vote on legislation to delay the transition to digital television (DTV). On Monday night, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed bipartisan legislation authored by Klobuchar and U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller to delay the upcoming digital television transition.
Klobuchar Supports Eric Holder for Attorney General during Judiciary Committee Hearing
Washington, D.C. – During a Judiciary Committee hearing today, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar voted to approve Eric Holder as Attorney General of the United States. Klobuchar cited Holder’s knowledge of the issues, background as a prosecutor, support from law enforcement officials and commitment to the bread and butter work of the Justice Department as reasons for her support. Holder’s nomination was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of 17 to 2 and now his nomination moves to the full U.S. Senate for confirmation.
Klobuchar Calls for Electronic Health Records at First Judiciary Committee Hearing
Washington, D.C. – Noting that electronic health records will be a critical component of health care reform, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar called for a greater commitment to ensuring patient privacy while seeking safeguards for vital medical research and analysis. The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on protecting the privacy of Americans’ health records was Klobuchar’s first as a member of the committee. Klobuchar pressed witnesses on how best to develop a comprehensive system that will both gain the trust of patients and continue to allow needed medical studies.
Klobuchar Hails Obama Decision on Emissions Standards
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement in response to President Obama’s announcement today that he has directed the Environment Protection Agency to reconsider a request by California and other states, including Minnesota to impose its own strict limits on automobile carbon dioxide emissions. California, Minnesota and 14 other states sued the federal government last year after the Bush Administration denied their request to be able to implement higher car emissions.
