January 14: Kaptur Supports S-CHIP Legislation To Provide Health Care to 11 Million Children
Marcy Kaptur supported bipartisan legislation to provide health care to 11 million children in modest-income families. The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act, similar to legislation that President Bush vetoed twice in the 110th Congress, would cut the number of uninsured children in Ohio by more than half.
 
January 12: Ending Pay Discrimination
U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur supports two bills, the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, that would strengthen worker rights and eradicate discriminatory pay policies.   The House passed both meausres, on largely party-line votes, during the first week of business for the 111th Congress.

Representative Marcy Kaptur, the senior woman in the House, served as one of four teller clerks in the vote for Speaker of the House as the 111th Congress was convened.
