UPDATING THE GI BILL FOR THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY

This summer, Congress passed and the President signed into law legislation to update the GI bill for the twenty-first century in order to meet the needs of our brave veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The new GI bill expands the education benefits veterans receive to restore the promise of a full, four-year college education to veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Previously, GI educational benefits paid only about 60 percent of a public college education and 30 percent of a private college education. The new GI educational benefits also allow service members to transfer educational benefits to their spouses and dependents.

If you are a Post 9/11 veteran and need help determining the educational benefits you are entitled to, click on the following link to use the benefits calculator created by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) - http://www.gibill2008.org/calculator.html.
