University of Idaho Fast Facts
The University of Idaho is located in Moscow, in the northern panhandle region of the state. It was located there as a "olive branch" gesture after the state capital was moved from Lewiston to Boise. Congress approved a measure that severed the Panhandle from the rest of Idaho and reattaching it to Washington. Citizens of Lewiston who had been upset about the capitol being moved to Boise were thrilled.
Shortly thereafter President Cleveland pocket vetoed the bill because of shown oppositions from Idaho's Governor Stevenson.
The most important presidential signature that never was so angered residents of the north that they created a public university and placed it in Moscow, a gesture referred to as an "olive branch" of peace.
Students can earn 154 different degrees while studying at the University of Idaho. The mascot of the U of I is the Vandal.
