McMorris Rodgers Helps Develop New Agenda for American Families
(Washington, D.C.) Today, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers and other women Members of Congress stood on the Capitol steps to unveil their new agenda “The American Families Agenda: Assuring the American Dream.”
“This agenda is focused on providing Eastern Washington families with solutions to the challenges they face,” McMorris Rodgers said. “Earlier this week, I held a telephone town hall with my constituents back in Eastern Washington. Time and again, they told me how much they are concerned about the rising costs of energy and health care. This agenda recognizes those concerns and offers some solutions.”
McMorris Rodgers was one of four members of Congress
who drafted the agenda. It is found in five main areas.
1. Assuring more time and money for America’s families
This includes the Family-Friendly Workplace Act, which Congresswoman McMorris
Rodgers introduced on Tuesday, May 13th. It gives employers the option of
offering employees the choice of paid time off in lieu of cash wages for overtime
hours worked if the employee prefers to take compensatory time instead of
overtime pay.
2. Assuring health care and retirement security for America’s
families
3. Protecting America’s kids by cracking down on gangs and child
predators
This includes the Internet Sex Offender Prohibition Act of 2007. Congresswoman
McMorris Rodgers introduced the legislation that requires mandatory prison
time for registered sex offenders who use the internet to target children.
4. Assuring a quality education for all children
5. Supporting America’s military families and keeping our country safe
