Comparing and Rating Medical Schools

The AAMC does not rate medical schools. The mission of every medical school includes teaching, research, and patient care. Because institutional priorities and approaches vary, ranking all schools based on a single criterion has limited utility.

The criteria sometimes used to differentiate among medical schools include NIH research funding, percentage of graduates who are underrepresented in medicine, and tuition and fees.

A discussion of the value of ranking medical schools is presented in Academic Medicine, the AAMC's peer-reviewed monthly journal.
