The AFT, in partnership with the NEA and the Presidential Inaugural Committee, has created inauguration-focused lesson plans to help educators discuss with their students the historic swearing-in of Barack Obama as president of the United States. The lesson plans are available at on the AFT Web site and from the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Martin Luther King, Jr. AFT Promotes Community Service Events on MLK Day
In 1994, to further commemorate a man who lived his life in service to others, Congress transformed the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday into a national day of community service. The AFT encourages our members to sponsor a community service event during the holiday weekend.
