West Virginia University’s search for a new president began Friday, Sept. 12, with Board of Governors approval of a 15-member constituency-based search committee to be led by former WVU President Gene Budig.

The process is expected to take 6-7 months, culminating in an announcement of WVU’s 23rd president on or before April 3.

News regarding the search, resources about the University and the Presidency, and links to other relevant information will be maintained on this Web site.

FULL SPEED AHEADWVU Presidential Search Committee Chair Gene Budig discusses the events of the committee’s first meeting with Co-Chair Carolyn Long and interim President C. Peter Magrath, who is serving as an adviser on the panel. Tuesday’s (Oct. 21) meeting was attended by all 15 voting members, who signed a confidentiality and code of ethics agreement and reviewed social justice guidelines. Dr. Budig reviewed the timeline for the search, with the goal of advertising the position by Nov. 1, receiving applications by Dec. 15, completing on-campus interviews by March 15, and then referring finalists to the Board of Governors for the naming of a new president by April 3. There is already “significant national interest in the presidency of WVU,” he told reporters after the meeting, “and I assure you there will be no shortage of qualified candidates.” The reputation of this University is in good shape, he added, especially under the leadership of Dr. Magrath. “If Peter Magrath is here, you know it’s a good place with a very good future,” he said. – Photo by Greg Ellis
