How to get in touch with
the Seattle Post-Intelligencer

If you see news happening:

If you want to express you opinion or comment, send a letter to the editor by mail, e-mail or fax. If you are responsible for publicity for your civic organization, business or church, send us a news release.

We want to keep in touch, too.

General guidelines for submitting any kind of news

Try to include all the information we will need to write an informative article for our readers. Answer these questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How? or How Much? Please double-check the spelling of names and places and include both a daytime and an evening telephone contact in case we need more information, because reporters work long into the evening.

If you have a photograph that would help illustrate the story, send it along. Remember, we cannot be responsible for the photos, and we don't return them.

We read every one of the thousands of news releases we receive each week, but we can't publish all of them. If your information is timely and the P-I's editors consider it useful to our readers, it will be passed to the appropriate editor, reporter or columnist to be prepared for publication. If possible we would like two to three weeks' notice about an event you think we should be covering.

Before you write or call us about a story you would like to see in the P-I, try to read through the paper to become familiar with the types of stories that appear in each section.

Telephone

Our main telephone number is (206) 448-8000. There is a live operator on duty from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Pacific time, except holidays. At other times, when you call that number, you will hear a recording. If you call a specific person or department, you may be able to leave your message in the P-I's voice-mail system. It is easy to use, self-prompting and available anytime.

Mail

You can reach anyone at the P-I by writing to them in care of the P-I, Box 1909, Seattle, WA 98111-1909. You can drop off a letter or press release at the P-I Building, 101 Elliott Ave. W., Suite 200, Seattle. Because of meetings, deadlines and breaking news stories, don't expect an editor or reporter to be available to meet with you unless you have an appointment.
