Agricultural debt will continue to be a problem until there is a genuine and lasting improvement in farm income opportunities. Credit availability is affected by reduced farm income protection, the negative impact of reduced program benefits on land values, and the failure to substantially improve the crop insurance program. We believe that Congress should monitor loan availability and servicing activities, and promote policies that ensure equal access to credit, regardless of gender or race. NFU supports farm credit policy that is adequately financed to help re-establish American family farmers and provide special assistance to beginning farmers and minority farmers.
