4-H LIFE is a family strengthening program
designed to address the needs of children of incarcerated parents and
their family members.
4-H LIFE provides a healthy and nurturing family environment during
enhanced visits at state
correction centers.
A
multi-disciplinary team of University of Missouri
Extension educators and
their partners guide the program that is based on the 4-H club model. 4-H LIFE currently operates
at three state correctional centers in Missouri:
- Algoa Correctional Center, Jefferson
City
- Potosi Correctional Center, Mineral
Point
- Women's Eastern Reception,
Diagnostic and Correctional Center, Vandalia

Community Service:
Groups or individuals put together suitcases filled with personal
care items for women, teens and children who come to battered
women's shelters.

for at-risk children and their families.
Missouri CYFAR Self-Study
The 4-H LIFE Program
was established with support from the University of Missouri (MU)
Extension, 4-H Center for Youth
Development,
Human Environmental Sciences
Extension, and the
National Children, Youth and Families at
Risk (CYFAR) Initiative. Through MU Extension, CYFAR makes available educational materials and
opportunities in the form of publications, videos, satellite conferences,
professional development, and the
CYFERnet website.
