California Wildfire Update

On Nov 18th, Administrator Paulison announced that a major disaster exists in the state of California and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local response efforts in the area struck by wildfires beginning on November 13, 2008, and continuing.

FEMA will continue to work with state officials and other federal partners engaged in response and recovery efforts. There are FEMA liaisons deployed to the State Operations Center in Sacramento and Regional Emergency Operations Center in Los Alamitos.  FEMA's Emergency Response Team (ERT) is in Southern California to work with the State in identifying additional needs. 

Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDAs) are being conducted jointly with the State of California, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration. PDA teams are currently deployed to Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside Counties.

Three Fire Management Assistance Grants has been approved for firefighting costs to help fight the Sayre, California Freeway Complex and the Tea Fire.
