Tropical Storm Dolly has intensified into a Category 2 hurricane. FEMA is working closely with the state of Texas to identify resources and pre-position supplies if needed post landfall. FEMA has deployed the National Urban Search and Rescue System and an Incident Management Assistance Team to Texas to support potential response efforts. Other federal resources and national response teams have also pre- deployed to the state to assist the state in its response to the storm, if needed.
During a hurricane, homes, businesses, public buildings, and infrastructure may be damaged or destroyed by many different storm hazards. Individuals that live along the southern Texas coast should know their risk and be prepared. Start by putting together an emergency supply kit (include identification, important insurance and financial documents, and prescriptions.) Make sure you have enough food and water for at least 72 hours. In addition, keep a supply of ice stored since it may only be distributed to health facilities or individuals with health and medical needs. Make sure you and your family have an emergency communications plan and pay attention to your local emergency management officials.
