Land Ownership

Hay Bail in a FieldFor generations, family agriculture producers have demonstrated a stewardship and kinsman ship with the land and a strong support and following of sound science. Providing all producers with access to land is paramount in continuing this strong tradition.

Every effort should be made to preserve farmer ownership, including the preservation of farm land in any rezoning efforts. Agricultural land must be preserved for the future.

NFU believes beginning farmers should be eligible for the same opportunities as other start-up businesses, including tax increment financing, which provides reduced property tax for early years of ownership. Current or new individual family agriculture operators should not be liable for contamination that did not occur during their ownership. endcap.gif
