The Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Office of Blood Research and Review (OBRR) Division of Hematology (DH) is accepting applications for the following position:

Director, Division of Hematology

The Director, Division of Hematology provides supervision and medical direction and guidance to laboratory and branch chiefs, and others in the Immediate Office of the Director (IOD); and represents the Division at high level management meetings. The position also entails supervision of research activities in the Division and assists the Office Director in allocating monetary and manpower resources among the Division’s staff for research activities; and in planning, developing, interpreting, implementing and coordinating Office and Center administrative management policies and plans. Duties will also consist of assisting the four division laboratory and one clinical review branch managers in the implementation of policies including work methods and procedures, and documentation systems. Incumbent will also supervise the reviews and provide management approval for products with potentially new indications; coordinate critical and timely reviews of protocols, labels, press releases, license applications and Investigational New Drugs (INDs); sign off on the reviews of existing protocols and release regulations regulating biologic products, including 510ks and New Drug Applications for devices associated with collection, processing and storage of cellular blood components. Another major component of this position requires the selected individual to possess strong team, management, and leadership skills that will enhance overall performance and productivity while creating a vibrant work culture. The selected candidate should also possess the ability to select and hire talented people, set clear performance expectations, and motivate each employee under their supervision. Additionally, the selected candidate will provide leadership and direction on the development, operation and appraisal of administrative management programs and/or systems and regulatory review and research services; develop regulatory standards, practices and guidelines at both the national and international level, which impacts public health.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. Candidates should also possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).] Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Salary Range:

Salary is equivalent to GP-0602-15, plus physician market pay (Title 38). Salary is commensurate with education and experience. An excellent benefits package is also available. Candidates may also be eligible for the PHS Commissioned Corps.
