1930s
Just before his election as President of the United States, New York governor Franklin Delano Roosevelt visited Seattle in 1932. He flashed his famous smile from an open touring car, surrounded by an admiring crowd. The governor, born in 1882, stricken with polio in 1921, would be elected to a record four terms as president, serving until his death in 1945.
