Ticker Symbols

The TSP Funds do not have ticker symbols.  Here’s why.

Ticker symbols are unique identifiers assigned to securities (including mutual funds) that are registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).  They are used by stock exchanges to facilitate trading.

Unlike many employee benefit plans that offer mutual funds as investment options, the TSP invests the F, C, S, and I Funds in "collective trust funds," managed by Barclays Global Investors (BGI).  Collective trust funds are comprised of their pooled investments, and are privately offered to employee benefit plans; they typically have lower costs than mutual funds.  Because collective trust funds are regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and not by the SEC, they do not have ticker symbols.
