The TSP search engine is similar to other search engines and allows you many methods for searching about the topic of your choice. A few useful tips for using the search engine are provided below:
- To search references that contain a specific sequence of letters, simply add an asterisk following the partial word. For example, annuit* will provide you with information about annuity, annuities, annuitant, etc.
- To search for an exact phrase, you can put quotation marks around the phrase. For example, to receive only results about in-service withdrawals, enter quotation marks around the entire phrase, “in-service withdrawals”. Your results will always refer to the exact phrase, just as you entered it.
- To search each of the individual words in a phrase, you can enter the phrase without asterisks, quotation marks, etc. In this situation, the search for in-service withdrawals will return results for the word in-service and additional results for the word withdrawals. Since the TSP has other types of withdrawals, you may receive results for types of withdrawals you are not looking for.
