Engineering Careers
Engineering is the art of applying mathematical and scientific skills to transform an idea into a product or system that benefits society. The field of engineering can be grouped into several specialties such as aeronautics and astronautics, agricultural and biological, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, construction engineering and management, electrical, engineering science, environmental, industrial, land surveying, materials, mechanical, nuclear, and interdisciplinary. Engineers perform many types of jobs such as research, design, development, analysis, tests and measurements.
Engineering Program Overview
The engineering program at Purdue North Central is designed to prepare students in technical competence and professional skills with an
emphasis on regional business needs. Graduates are best suited for technical and/or managerial positions in industry and/or government. The primary objectives of the engineering program are:
- Provide a well rounded quality undergraduate engineering education
- Emphasize applications of modern sciences and technologies
- Provide engineering consulting services to the local industry
- Participate in research activities and learn their relevance to society
- Participate in engineering competitions and experience professional interactions
- Participate with local engineering societies
- Work with regional businesses to meet the growing economic needs of mid-northern Indiana
Engineering Quality Guidelines
- An Indiana Core 40 or Academic Honors high school diploma or equivalent
- Class rank of 60 percent or higher
- A scholastic aptitude test score of 1500 (500 verbal and 520 quantitative sections) on the SAT or 22 on the ACT
