Welcome from Interim Dean John A. E. Hubbell

Welcome to The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Established in 1885, it is one of the oldest veterinary colleges in the nation. In 2006, the college received a seven-year accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association. In 2008, we were ranked fifth in the nation according to U.S. News and World Report. I invite you to explore the college via our web site. Read our mission statement to begin to understand the dedication of our faculty, staff and students to the improvement of the lives of animals and people. As you navigate the site, you will discover a group of people with the common goal of providing excellence in teaching, research, service and outreach involving a wide range of animal issues.

The College of Veterinary Medicine offers a wealth of opportunities for students interested in the ever-expanding field of veterinary medicine. In addition to our excellent program for veterinary students, our three academic departments, Veterinary Biosciences, Veterinary Clinical Sciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicine, have research and graduate education programs that are at the forefront of science. Our college celebrates a long history of accomplishment and service in meeting the challenges of improving the health of animals, assuring the wholesomeness of food products and contributing to the understanding of the basic mechanisms of disease. A partnership with the College of Public Health includes a new master's degree of veterinary public health

Students who enroll in the College of Veterinary Medicine have the opportunity to work with an outstanding college faculty, the members of which are known nationally and internationally for their scholarship. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the only comprehensive referral veterinary hospital in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, provides a wealth of case material that benefits the educational experience of both professional and graduate students through its diversity of cases. The college is proud to have one of the first and finest clinical residency programs in the nation.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is located in Columbus, the capital of the state of Ohio and is part of one of the largest universities in the world. The college benefits greatly from partnerships across the campus. It is actively engaged in the Columbus community via partnerships with the Capital Area Humane Society, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and other organizations. We enjoy many state and national affiliations including a close relationship with our 6,200 active alumni.

Visit our college frequently, browse our web pages and discover information about college programs, research opportunities, facilities, admissions, residency programs and continuing education.
