InternshipsInternshipsThe Student Farm offers a wide range of opportunities for students to learn and explore. Students may participate in any of the ongoing projects or create internships of their own design. Academic credit and/or transcript notation is available. Internship opportunities are available year-round through each of the following projects: The Ecological Garden - a half-acre garden of flowers, vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs, fruit trees, vines and insectary plants used for teaching ecological horticulture, seed saving and related topics. Market Garden - a four-acre section of the farm where students learn about small scale, organic vegetable production and marketing; produce from the market garden is sold to the Coffee House on campus and through a community-supported agriculture program, Student Harvests. Farm Crew - an opportunity for students to gain experience in general farm operations, such as operating and maintaining farm equipment, irrigation and farm construction. The Children's Garden - a program that provides hundreds of elementary school children with a hands-on tour of the demonstration garden each spring. UC Davis students lead the tours after receiving training during winter quarter. The Compost Project - both a turned windrow, thermophilic system and a vermicomposting system are employed to compost kitchen scraps from the Coffee House with animal manure and bedding; finished compost is used on the farm and by other campus units.
