Student Harvests

Student Harvests is a hands-on, educational program that gives students the opportunity to operate a subscription-farming community-supported agriculture (CSA) program at the Student Farm throughout the year. Faculty, staff and students can subscribe to receive weekly produce baskets.

Subscription farming is a relatively new method of direct marketing being used by a growing number of small, diversified farms in California and elsewhere. However, it is more than just a marketing strategy. It also is designed to build a cooperative relationship between the community of customers and the farmer. In subscription farming, the customers pay in advance for a weekly basket of a diverse mix of fresh produce.

Student Harvests baskets are filled with a diverse mix of seasonal, student-grown produce each week. Summer baskets may contain tomatoes, peppers, squash, sweet corn, melons, beans, cucumbers, basil, bulb onions and various tree fruits. A winter basket might contain lettuce, broccoli, carrots, beets, cabbage, fresh herbs and citrus. The subscription fee is $14/week, paid in advance monthly or quarterly.
