Veterinary Externships

Senior veterinary students will participate in a one month externship experience that may be selected from an approved off-site hospital or from a clinical service at Ohio State Veterinary Teaching Hospital with instructor approval.

The list of currently approved off-site hospitals and programs is organized by focus area. Students that would like to design their externship experience to include a program not currently approved may request approval of the program by the Office of Student Affairs. All experiences must be in a 4 week block.

Participating off-site institution's committment

In order to provide a consistent level of training for all of our veterinary students, (unless otherwise noted under miscellaneous), each participating program agrees:

  • to accept student's in future academic quarters, on a mutual consent basis between this organization and the student applying for elective quarter credit.
  • to evaluate student performance and to report that performance back to the college within 2 weeks of the end of their experience.
  • that the students will evaluate their experiences in the rotation and the result of their evaluation will be available to the clinical supervisor and to additional students for consideration for future experiences.
  • that they have AVMA or other liability insurance.
