Lenexa, KS -- Less than four weeks after the storms and tornadoes beginning
May 4 and continuing, residents of the disaster-declared counties are
rapidly receiving aid through state and federal assistance programs.
Counties included in the Presidential disaster declaration for both public
and individual assistance are Anderson, Cherokee, Crawford, Labette, Leavenworth,
Miami, Neosho, Seward, Woodson and Wyandotte. Additionally, Douglas, Haskell,
Meade and Osage counties are included for individual assistance only.
Recovery services summary at close of business Wednesday,
May 28, 2003:
- 978 applications have been received through the FEMA toll free registration
number 800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY: 800-462-7585.
- 92.3 percent of habitability inspections have been completed.
- $540,106.93 from the Housing Assistance Program has been disbursed.
- $364,221.00 from the Other Needs Program has been disbursed.
- The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved a total
of $3,781,800 in low interest disaster loans.
- Disaster Unemployment Assistance program (DUA) is available for Cherokee,
Crawford, Labette, Leavenworth, Miami, Neosho and Wyandotte Counties.
Deadline for application is June 8, 2003.
- Disaster Unemployment Assistance program (DUA) is available for Anderson,
Douglas, Osage and Woodson Counties. Deadline for application is June
15, 2003.
- Disaster Unemployment Assistance program (DUA) is available for Haskell,
Meade and Seward Counties. Deadline for application is June 27, 2003.
- Two Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) opened and are located in Wyandotte
and Crawford counties.
- One Mobile Disaster Recovery Center is open from May 28 - 31 in Columbus
- 48,175 meals and snacks have been served by the American Red Cross
in the declared counties.
- 12,900 meals and snacks have been served by the Salvation Army in
the declared counties.
