PNC Assessment

SSC Links

No one wants to start college and be in a class where the work is way too easy or completely over their head. PNC Assessment is a series of three tests (English, math, reading) that helps new degree-seeking students find classes that meet their needs.

Purdue University North Central reviews each student's academic background to determine if testing is necessary. Your letter of admission from PNC will state if you are required to take the PNC Assessment test.

Students may always choose to take specific tests if they are unsure of their ability and students that graduated in the lower half of their high school class, or have a GED will be required to take the Placement Tests. Admissions personnel and academic advisors may also require a student to be tested in a specific area based on the student's academic background and the academic goals they have indicated. Students may take the tests either in a session listed below or in the Student Success Center at a more convenient time. Students always have the option of retesting if they are dissatisfied with their placement.

Test results are provided for students immediately after completion of the test.  For more information, or to set up an alternate testing time, call the Student Success Center at (800) 872-1231, ext. 5326.

PNC Assessment

Testing begins promptly at the time indicated and will take approximately three hours. NO FEE; NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY. Testing at the PNC Campus will be taking place in the Student Success Center.

Do you need a math review before you take the PNC Assessment?
Attend a STAR and/or BAR Session!

STARS (Arithmetic Review Session)

Prepare for the PNC Assessment with this review session.  Topics covered include:

*Whole Number Operations
*Fractions
*Mixed Fractions
*Decimals
*Order of Operations
*Solving for the Variable

Material that is NOT covered includes algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and statistics. This is a REVIEW and not intended to be a teaching situation.  Not everyone will be familiar with all of the material -- order of operations, for instance -- but many people will have a background with most of the topics. If you want to repeat the PNC Assessment because of the math placement, attending a STAR session before you retest would be to your advantage. Download the STARS information packet (PDF).

BARS (Basic Algebra Review Session)

Use this review to brush up on your basic algebra skills for the PNC Assessment test or retest.  Topics covered include:

*Integers
*Solving for the Variable
*Distributive Property
*Graphing

Please note, this material is reviewed quickly and is intended for those students who already have a basic background in algebra. Material that is NOT covered includes geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics. Download the BARS information packet (PDF).
