UWFC News:

Our primary mission is to support teaching and research in the areas of ichthyology, fisheries biology, aquatic biology, conservation, and biodiversity, and to provide a source of ichthyological information for the public. Towards this end, we maintain a large archival collection of preserved fishes from the Pacific Northwest and around the world, and we make this valuable material available for study both to visitors in the collection and through a program of gifts, loans, and exchanges. Fish Collection staff and resources play an important role in undergraduate and graduate education within the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, and recently an elementary school outreach program has also been developed. We also provide a variety of tours for other interested parties, and field many telephone inquiries from the press and public concerning mysterious fishes and other ichthyological matters.

In September 1995 we established our web server with the following goals: increase public awareness of the Fish Collection; facilitate communication with its staff; increase utilization by researchers; and provide online access to our collection databases.

We hope that you find our site both informative and fun to visit. Please note that you can click on the "Fish Collection" banner at the top of any page to return to our homepage. Your suggestions for additional features or changes to existing features are welcome; please send them to Katherine Maslenikov.
