Park Ranger OpportunitiesArizona State Parks offers a variety of employment opportunities. Those interested in park operations may consider a Park Ranger, Park Manager, Regional Manager, or Interpretive Education position in our 27 State Parks. Arizona State Parks also has seasonal requirements for temporary Park Rangers.

Professional, administrative, and technical opportunities are available in the Phoenix office for those interested in Park Development, Public Information/Relations, Research and Marketing, Administration Services, Grants and Recreation Programs, Resource Management, Outreach Programs, and State Historic Preservation Office positions.

The current spotlight is on the Executive Director, Arizona State Parks Board.

The mission at Arizona State Parks is managing and conserving Arizona’s natural, cultural and recreational resources for the benefit of the people both in our parks and through our partners. It is our vision to be recognized nationally and locally as the outstanding resource management organization. 

The Executive Director of Arizona State Parks, after twenty years as the Director, is retiring. Therefore, we are currently looking for an energetic and motivated professional to serve our Board as the Executive Director providing the passion, direction, and leadership for Arizona State Parks. This executive-level position is responsible to the Arizona State Parks Board for the general supervision and control of all activities, functions and employees of the Agency. Learn more, read complete description and hiring schedule.

Selection: Resumes submitted through AZStateJobs.gov will be evaluated by State Parks Recruitment Staff and referred to the hiring supervisor. Should qualifications match that of an open position, the resume may be forwarded to the hiring authority for consideration. You will be contacted only if the hiring supervisor wishes to pursue your background further. A valid Class D Arizona Driver's License is required at time of appointment for most jobs. All relevant information is subject to verification.

Location: Most Parks are located away from the major urban areas of the State. Please review our Arizona State Parks Map for locations.

Residency: Some positions are in parks that may require the incumbent to reside at the park. This requirement will be part of the individual position's requirement. See a list of parks with Residency requirements.

Pre-Employment Medical/Physical Requirement: Employment in these positions is contingent upon the passing of a medical/physical examination, which includes testing of ability to lift 50 pounds. This exam will be coordinated with the State of Arizona Human Resources Division, Occupational Health Services and paid for by the State of Arizona.

Law Enforcement: Some positions may require that the incumbent be, or be eligible for, certification as a Peace Officer. Peace Officer Certification has the basic criteria:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • No felony convictions
  • Must be a least 21 years of age
  • Medical Exam
  • Polygraph exam
  • Physical Fitness Standards
  • Complete criminal history background check
  • Completion of a 17-week Police academy (after hire)
