Annual Banquet to be Held May 7

Sigma Xi will hold a joint banquet with the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine at the Naval Officer's Club in Bethesda on Thursday, May 7, 1998. This year's banquet is a bit earlier than in previous years because of scheduling problems toward the latter part of May. As in the past, Sigma Xi will be honoring the winners of the Regional High School Science Fairs from Fairfax, Northern Virginia, District of Columbia, Prince George's and Montgomery Counties. The winners will be at the Banquet with their exhibits, so we will all have a chance to meet these promising young scientists and discuss their exhibits with them. Dr. Bob Creveling, recently retired from NIH's National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, will speak on "Estrogens as Endogenous Carcinogens in Breast Cancer." This should be an interesting and timely presentation. Make plans to come to the Banquet. Both Sigma Xi and SEBM will be subsidizing the meals, so we can keep the price at an affordable $20. each. Bring a guest with you. Please fill out and return your Reservation Form (with payment) to one of the individuals listed before April 30.

Ethics Meeting

SEBM (DC) and NIH present a Forum on Responsible Conduct in Biomedical Research at the Lister Auditorium, NLM, on Friday, May 1, 1998, 2:00 pm- 5:00 pm. RSVP to D.G. Patel (301) 435-0824 or Sid Stolzenberg (301) 594-5345.
