Future Freshman To-Do List

High School Seniors

  • During the summer before senior year, get a head start on your personal statement for Purdue's admission application.
  • Apply online before November 15. November 15 is a key deadline for many academic programs and scholarships.
  • If you haven't taken an SAT or ACT test, schedule a test for early fall. When scheduling a test, take advantage of the testing agency's free service to send scores to Purdue electronically.
  • Plan a summer or early fall visit to Purdue.
  • After submitting an online application, be sure to review your online checklist to determine what additional information Purdue needs to complete your application, such as an SAT or ACT test score or your high school transcript.
  • If you met the November 15 application deadline and have retaken the SAT or ACT test, be aware that January 1 is the final deadline to submit new test scores for scholarship consideration.
  • Continue to work hard in high school. Your senior year will continue to prepare you for success in college.
  • Assume leadership roles in your school or community activities.

High School Juniors

  • Continue to work hard in high school. An upward or downward trend in your high school academic performance will be a factor in Purdue's admission decision.
  • Pursue a rigorous academic curriculum throughout high school. If you take tough courses in high school you'll be a stronger candidate for admission to and better prepared to succeed in college.
  • When planning your senior year schedule, continue to take academic courses (math, science, English, social studies, foreign language) whether or not you've satisfied your graduation requirements in a particular subject area.
  • Continue to be involved in school or community activities. Take on leadership roles.
  • Take the SAT or ACT test in the spring of your junior year. When scheduling a test, take advantage of the testing agency's free service to send scores to Purdue electronically.
  • Take advantage of one of Purdue's fall or spring visit programs for prospective students.

High School Sophomores

  • Take the PSAT or PLAN test and take advantage of the feedback these tests provide. These can be great practice for when you take the SAT or ACT in the spring of your junior year.
  • Continue to work hard in high school. Challenge yourself academically, taking the toughest courses you can handle and that are available to you.
  • Get involved in your school or community. Make a commitment to be highly involved in one or two activities or organizations rather than barely involved in several.
  • Take advantage of one of Purdue's fall or spring visit programs for prospective students.

High School Freshman

  • Set a course for strong academic performance throughout high school. When you're applying for college, all high school grades and courses "count."
  • Set your goals high. If your school offers an honors or high honors diploma make the decision now to pursue it and plan accordingly.
