Executive Director: Anthony De Cristofaro

Picture of Anthony De Cristofaro Executive Director of the C F C N CA Anthony De Cristofaro is executive director of the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA). Mr. De Cristofaro supervises the year-round CFCNCA staff of fund-raising and operational support team members and the loaned executives deployed from the government to assist CFCNCA during the campaign. He also serves on the senior management team at Global Impact which has been operating the CFCNCA since 2003.

CFCNCA is part of the largest workplace find-raising campaign in the world. Federal employees pledged more than $273 million in 2007. Employees in the National Capital Area pledge $60.8 million to more than 3,600 local, national and international charities.

De Cristofaro has 28 years experience in fund-raising campaigns. He was president of Lighthouse Communications, a consulting business in Fairfax, VA. Prior to that he led the United Way of the National Capital marketing department coordinating brand strategy, advertising, public relations, media relations, internal communications, issues management, marketing technology/public website and video productions.

He also has worked at local United Way organizations in Houston, Texas and Anderson, Indiana. During two different tenures at United Way of America, he was vice president of corporate communications from 1987 through 1993 and then vice president of marketing from 1998 through 2001, and vice president of productions.

De Cristofaro has directed public relations programs that have won recognition from numerous organizations including the Houston Advertising Federation, Public Relations Society of America, Annual Report Conference, and Public Relations Quarterly. De Cristofaro was a member of the business faculty while teaching public relations at Anderson College, Anderson, Ind., and is an occasional guest lecturer at Trinity University. He served on the faculty of the Ball State University journalism workshops. He earned his bachelor's degree in English magna cum laude from Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, N.C. and has done graduate coursework at Ball State University in public relations and higher education administration where he was the university’s first John W. Hill Fellow in Public Relations Research.

De Cristofaro has presented workshops to a wide range of organizations including Microsoft, Compaq Computer Corporation, American Marketing Association, Public Relations Society of America, International Association of Business Communicators, America’s Charities, Neighbor-Nation, United Way Communications Roundtable, the CFC Million Dollar Roundtable, the Risk Management Conference, and others.

He is married to Mary Elizabeth Costea and they have two daughters, Regina, a nurse at Duke University Medical Center, and Sarah, a senior at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Deputy Director: Edith L. Parrish

Picture of Edith Parrish Deputy Director of the C F C N C AEdith L. Parrish is Deputy Director of the CFCNCA, a campaign for which she has devoted the last 29 years of her professional career. Throughout these years, Edith has contributed to the review and improvement of all the core business practices of the CFCNCA. She supervises and assists in all aspects of planning and implementing the CFCNCA including managing the application process, helping to recruit, train and manage senior federal executives who serve as loaned executives and provide service and support to leaders of the federal government and labor unions. Prior to her non-profit career, she served as an advocate for the physically and emotionally challenged.

Edith earned her bachelor's degree in business from North Carolina A&T University and has taken graduate courses at the USDA Graduate School and Liberty Baptist University . In addition to her professional fundraising career, Edith is an ordained Minister, certified Evangelism instructor and Music Director and serves as President of the Montgomery County Music Convention. She conducts leadership training across the area and is a member of the National Society for Professional Female Executives. Edith also is a published poet and is recognized by the International Society of Poets.

Associate Directors

The Associate Directors are responsible for developing campaign strategy, setting campaign goals, recruiting and training loaned executives and campaign volunteers and achieving targeted campaign results. They are Henry Rubin, Zelda Irby, Annece Perry, Albert Rotundo, Elaine Tucker and George C. Young.

Associate Director: Zelda Irby

Zelda Irby joined the CFCNCA July 1, 2005. She is a former Loaned Executive and retired federal government employee, where she had several years experience in providing ethics and bribery awareness training to senior and non-senior employees throughout the United States. Her experience also includes matching five hundred mentors and mentorees in a discipline of Public Health Administration, United States Public Health Service. She is passionate about the CFC and takes pride in providing support in community activities.

When asked about other things that are important to her, an immediate response is her daughter, Allison, who is extensively involved in international matters. She loves to also talk about Mr. Higgins (her dog) and Angel Engozee (her cat), she rescued from hurricane Charley. Zelda refers to them as a pair of life’s example of being quite different, yet able to get along.

Associate Director: Annece Perry

Photo of Annece PerryAnnece has been involved in non-profit management since 1987, training boards in fundraising and governance issues and assisting associations in marketing and non membership revenue. She especially enjoys organizing and spiriting the cause of workplace giving campaigns. She organized the first internal campaigns for employees to give to GSUSA and the American Red Cross.

Annece represented both organizations in the Combined Federal Campaign – American Red Cross and the Girl Scouts of the USA. During Annece’s years at the American Red Cross, CFC contributions rose from $3 million in 1998 to $7.2 million in the 2004 campaign. Also from 1997 – 2005 she served on the National CFC Committee on local support projects, including the design and coordination of the 2005 and 2006 annual videos.

For fun Annece is Marketing VP for a non-profit that is an all-volunteer membership organization, each year she performs Washington's only original, political, satirical, musical, comedy revue to sold-out audiences and has contributed more than $3 million to 40+ Washington area charities.

Associate Director: Albert Rotundo

Phot of Al RotundoUpon his retirement from the U.S. Department of Education after a 44-year career there and with its predecessor agency, the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, Albert Rotundo joins the CFCNCA as associate campaign director. Al’s final position was as division director, program support services group in the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). In this position Al managed a $9 billion budget, providing educational support services to the 50 States and 15,000 school districts and enabling 6 million disabled children to have free access to a meaningful education. During his tenure, Al has set up seven different organizations within the department’s he has served, including the National Institute on Disability Research and Rehabilitation.

Al has extensive experience in financial and grants administration, as well as having managed several CFC campaigns within the agencies he has worked. He has bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Missouri in business and public administration. Al is an active member of the alumni association of the Federal Executive Institute where he both participated in training and led other programs. Among his many special assignments, he has been a member of a number of cross departmental organizational change committees dealing with culture change, awards and recognition, staff development and competitive outsourcing.

Associate Director: George C. Young

Photo of George YoungGeorge has been involved in non-profit development for over 25 years, working 15 years with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), where he started in the MDA Philadelphia District in 1981 and was then promoted to the Washington , D.C. District in 1983. George coordinated the annual MDA Jerry Lewis Telethon in the Mid-Atlantic's top television markets, and finished his career with MDA in 1996 as a Regional Coordinator and Director of Special Gifts. He worked as General Manager for a satellite video conference organization delivering live educational and medical programs around the world.

As National Field Director, George served Neighbors Who Care, a crime victim assistance program, moving the organization from 12 to 20 community based organizations in large urban areas across the U.S. Prior to joining the Combined Federal Campaign team in 2003, he served as Executive Director of the Washington, D.C./Virginia Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.

George is a member of various community related committees and boards and is presently serving as a volunteer with the MBC Career Network to assist persons in career transition. He has a Bachelor's degree from Averett University in Business Administration.

 

Associate Director: Henry Rubin

Photo of Henry RubinHenry joined the CFCNCA on August 6, 2007. He recently retired from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission after 34 years of Federal government service. His responsibilities included serving as the agency manager for the Combined Federal Campaign for the past 15 years. He also managed the professional recruitment program and recruitment advertising program for the NRC, managing a budget of over $1,000,000. In addition, he coordinated the NRC Annual Awards Ceremony that was normally attended by 1,000 employees. Other significant assignments included serving as President of the Employees Welfare Recreation Association and President, Board of Directors, for the NRC Fitness Center.

Henry earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and MBA in Personnel and Labor Relations from the University of Maryland. Outside interests include playing saxophone in the Rockville Jazz Band and Montgomery Wind Ensemble. Previously, he played in the Washington Redskins Marching Band and University of Maryland Basketball Pep Band.

Associate Director: Elaine Tucker

Photo of Elaine TuckerMs. Tucker joined the staff of the CFCNCA as an Associate Director in June 2007. Immediately post-retirement, she returned to the CFCNCA as Development Specialist to help with the 2007 campaign from October 2006 through February 2007. When she retired in September 2006, she was a 2006 CFC Loaned Executive from the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), Office of the Secretary of Defense. During February and March 2006, she assisted the Office of Personnel Management with their annual national charity application review. From August 2005 through January 2006 she served as a DoD Loaned Executive. Prior to FVAP, Ms. Tucker held Human Resources Specialist positions in various Federal agencies, including the Department of the Navy, Department of Agriculture, National Institutes of Health, Government Accountability Office, the Peace Corps, and the Environmental Protection Agency. She began her career as a high school social studies teacher in the Fairfax County, Virginia Public School System.

Ms. Tucker has a Master of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Maryland. She enjoys watching movies and sports, her gym and the beach.

Ms. Tucker is married and has two children and two grandchildren. She is a native Washingtonian and resides in Arlington, Virginia with her husband, Lawrence.

Other Staff

Communications Specialist: Jeff Brown

Picture of Jeff Brown Communications Specialist C F C N C AJeff comes to the CFCNCA after 18 years with the United Way of America. While with the United Way he managed the organization's audio-visual operations, and was responsible for producing and editing public service announcements that featured everyone from United States Presidents and National Football League players to stars of film and television. In addition to PSAs, he helped create campaign films, training tapes and videos honoring people and organizations who have played a major part in the philanthropic community.

This is Jeff's third campaign with CFCNCA and has been responsible for producing three campaign films, Public Service Announcements, training videos, photography and managing the CFCNCA.org website.

In his free-time, Jeff spends a lot of his time either volunteering at his children's school or coaching youth basketball and baseball. A native of the DC area, Jeff graduated from the University of Florida with a BS degree in Telecommunications.

Operations Specialist: Qiana Gray

Photo of Qiana GrayWith nine years of experience in the administrative field, she joined CFCNCA in 2002 and is involved in a variety of aspects of the campaign including maintaining and updating databases and assisting with the charity application process.

Her previous experience was at Spacelink International; Smith, Bucklin & Associates and the Prince George 's County Department of Social Services. Qiana is pursuing her degree in English from the University of Maryland.

Operations Specialist: Kristin Harris

Picture of Kristin Illsley Operations Specialist C F C N C AKristin Harris is the Operations Specialist for CFCNCA; she recently joined us in August 2006. Her main responsibilities are to manage the campaign supplies and incentives, events planning, campaign awards and working with the operations team on other important campaign tasks. Kristin graduated from George Mason University in May 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrative Studies and a minor in Community Studies and the Nonprofit Sector. She has spent the last 5 years working and volunteering with local, national and international not-for-profit organizations.

Charity Outreach Coordinator: Aleicia Wilson

Photo of Aleicia WilsonAleicia is in the business of making people smile. Her career is marked with a long list of public service jobs from the Department of Motor Vehicles in the District of Columbia to being a Customer Service Representative for United Airlines. Now a member of the CFCNCA Operations Team, hers is the first voice you hear when calling through the main phone line or when visiting the office. In addition, she coordinates the CFCNCA Charity Outreach Program scheduling charity fairs, recruiting speakers and arranging tours. Alecia has one son, Cartier A. Williams, who is eighteen-years-old and attends college in Miami, Florida. She has toured extensively with him over the last 10 years on and off. She enjoys people and loves helping others.

Help Desk Coordinator: Maya Pirela

Photo of Maya PirellaMaya Pirela is the Help Desk Coordinator for CFCNCA. After seeing the impact that the CFC had on people’s lives while temping here for a few months last campaign, she returned in July to continue adding to the legacy of the CFC. Her responsibilities include answering questions about Manage as well as general questions about the campaign. Maya graduated from Eastern University in St. Davids, PA with a major in Communication Studies and a minor in Spanish. She has spent numerous hours volunteering and tutoring children in inner city schools and suburbs.

Volunteer Coordinator: Fred Bortz

Photo of Fred BortzMost of Fred’s career, since graduating with a bachelor’s degree, has been in the Disabilities Field; Fred worked for the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities, a state agency whose mission is to promote systems change, through the funding of pilot programs, in an effort to help promote better lives for individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Most of his work, though, has been in community-based non-profit sector service providers for individuals with disabilities, where he has served in roles such as Program Manager and Deputy Director.

Fred is a proud graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania and is a huge Golden Eagle fan.

Where there are not full-time staff responsibilities, staff members at Global Impact are providing additional support in areas such as accounting, communications, technology and more.
