Xmas lights started fire at W. Seattle landmark
SEATTLE -- Investigators have determined the fire that damaged the landmark Homestead restaurant in West Seattle was started by too many Christmas lights in a single electrical outlet.
A fire department spokeswoman, Dana Vander Houwen (HOW'-en), says damage is estimated at $400,000.
Smoke was reported about 5 a.m. Friday, and firefighters had the fire out in about 20 minutes. It extended from the first floor into the attic, causing charring and smoke damage.
There was no one inside at the time.
The restaurant is located in an old home not far from the Alki beach.
