Montana Meth Project and PPL Montana Partnering to Paint the State

Methamphetamine use by young people in Montana is dramatically higher than the national average, and the majority of all drug-related federal sentences in Montana are related to methamphetamine.

These statistics and a host of other facts have compelled leading professionals and organizations to form the Montana Meth Project, a community prevention effort aimed at the methamphetamine problem in Montana. The goal is to significantly reduce the prevalence of first-time methamphetamine use in Montana.

PPL Montana partnered with the Montana Meth Project on a statewide prevention initiative called Paint the State.

We decided to do this based in part on the results of our Quality-of-Life Survey of Montana residents, which found methamphetamine abuse to be the leading social concern in the state.

Methamphetamine abuse is damaging the social fabric. But the effects of meth don’t stop there. Its use hurts the economic viability of this state by affecting future generations of policymakers, community leaders, business owners and workforce members.

I encourage you to get involved in this important cause. Take time to learn about the methamphetamine problem and what the Montana Meth Project is doing. Share information about the consequences of methamphetamine use with your children and encourage them to visit the Meth Project's teen-focused Web site - Not Even Once.

Thank you for your support.
