Purdue Winter Break Closures

Writing Question of the Week
This is a question submitted by an OWL user to the OWL Tutors. If you need to have a question answered quickly, contact our OWL Tutors here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/contact/owlmailtutors. Or you may call the Grammar Hotline at 765-494-3723 . And remember, both services are free for everyone!
MLA Citation
Dear OWL:
My teacher said that MLA has new rules updates. I have to create a works cited page, and one source I'm confused about is a newspaper that's online and published in print form. How would I do the citation in my works cited for this using the new MLA rules?
Thanks,
Roger
Hi Roger,
Over the summer, MLA published its third edition of MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing. This book contains the latest MLA updates, and the rules will become official in January 2009 when MLA publishes its seventh edition of MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. The OWL currently has an overview page of the latest changes here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/557/15/.
The OWL is updating all its MLA resources to reflect these changes, and these materials will be posted in January. Until then, here is how you would cite a newspaper that hosts online articles and publishes its work in print:
Online periodicals include both the name of the website in italics and the website publisher. Note that some sites will have different names than their print formats, such as ones that include a domain name like .com or .org. If no publisher is listed, use N.p. to denote no publisher name given. Follow with date of publication, Web as medium of publication, and date of access.
Lubell, Sam. “Of the Sea and Air and Sky.” New York Times. New York Times, 26 Nov. 2008. Web. 1 Dec. 2008.
Remember to indent the second and subsequent lines of the citation and to double space the works cited page.

Including Numbers
I work in an HMO and use technical writing. Is it proper to write all numbers and then have the numerical value in parentheses after. The intent is for clarification. ex: ten (10) .
Thank you
